Are you excited for Halloween?
I’ve never been a huge Halloween fan. The whole concept seemed silly to me. Why would you want to dress up as someone else and walk around begging for food? Ok, so I dumbed it down a bit, but you know what I mean. This year the girls seem to be excited about it more than usual. Kitten is older now so she understands it better and for whatever reason they are super pumped about their mom-made M&M costumes. (They look pretty cute if I do say so myself.) And I’m very happy that they won’t be one in a sea of 50, 000 Elsas this year. BORING!
Seeing them excited about their costumes got me thinking about costumes in general. After all, Halloween is a great time to pretend to be someone you’re not. A superhero, a princess, a fairy, or a doctor. The possibilities are endless. If I was going to pretend to be someone I wasn’t who would I be?
This year for Halloween I’ve decided I’m going to pretend to be a put-together mom!
I’m going to dress up like a mom who has her shit together. Everything is organized and orderly. I’m put together and look good, I have plenty of energy for all the things in my life. I volunteer at school PTO functions and get in all my notes and important school paperwork on time instead of rummaging through a pile of papers last minute. I get to work on time and put in a productive day before going home fresh and ready to take on a night at home. The house is clean and dinner is nutritious and delicious and on the table in under 30 minutes. I work out 5 times a week and there is no muffin top peaking out from my pants. I have an incredible relationship with my husband. We have plenty of quality time to spend together and a great sex life too. My children are well-behaved at home and in public and never ever scream, hit, or tantrum. Everything in life is just as it should be.
The more I think about it, this costume sounds dreadful. I’ll just stick with the life I have rather than strive for perfection. I think that’s better for everyone.
