Our Weekend Retreat

This past weekend my husband and I went to Maine to rest, relax and reconnect. It was much overdue from the crazy, but great year we had with renovating our house.

As we were driving, looking at the great foliage I found myself relaxing more and more after each hour we were in the car; it was such a wonderful feeling.

For late September the weather couldn’t have been any better. I will take 84 degrees in Maine any day. We spent the weekend sipping margaritas, sitting on the beach, walking by the shops in Ogunquit and even venturing to Portsmouth, New Hampshire for a little retail therapy. The nights we took walks on the beach and actually stayed up past 8:30 p.m.!

I can’t tell you how relaxed I felt coming home, it was a wonderful time and a much needed break from all the life’s demands. We had nowhere to be, no one to call and simply enjoyed each other’s company.

I jokingly told my husband, “See I am not such a bitch after all, I’m still the woman you married!” I know you all can relate to that comment.

My advice for you all, take a few long weekend trips with your husband at least twice a year. You don’t have to use your vacation time and the grandparents will so happy spending their weekend with your little one.

This weekend really recharged our marriage. Can’t wait for the next trip!

  1. Not every couple ha the ability to do that. As a military family, with grandparents on the other side of the country, it’s not feasible. But I do agree it’s helpful to recharge as a couple if you have that option.
