‘Twas the Night Before Christmas…Working Mom Remix!

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

One creature was stirring, but it wasn’t a mouse;

Mom was still up, filling stockings with care,

So the little ones would be sure St. Nick had been there;

If the kiddos had just gone to sleep right at eight,

Poor Mamma wouldn’t still be up this late!

But the clock had struck two,
and mom wasn’t quite done;

She was still ensuring Christmas magic and fun.

When, suddenly, she heard a bellowing knock,

And, at this hour, she hesitated to open the lock!

With baseball bat in hand she opened the door,

And could scarcely believe who stood there on the floor.

“You’re not real!” she exclaimed to the man dressed in red

And she started to wonder if she’d perhaps hit her head.

“Hush” said Santa, with his finger to his lip,

And he passed her some eggnog and said “Have a sip!

I’ll finish the chores before the kids wake.”

Said the jolly man in red who was clearly not fake!

And before she could taste the treat in her glass,

The relieved mom watched Santa’s elves whiz past!

“That roast…marinade it! That casserole…bake!

The dishwasher..empty! And breakfast- please make!

From the floor in the kitchen to the rug in the hall…

Now vacuum it! Vacuum it! Vacuum it all!”

As new-folded clothes flung by toddlers do fly

Mom relaxed on the couch as the elves rushed by.

Then into the kitchen Santa’s elves flew,

With sponges and mops and St. Nicholas, too.

And then, in a twinkling, Mom heard the sink

And POOF! All the dishes were done in a wink!

She gasped with delight when she saw them start cleaning,

And she smiled to see her whole house was gleaming.

The cookies they frosted with colors so bright!

Mom was sure this was no ordinary night.

Santa grinned when he saw the pile of toys

That mom had carefully chosen for her two little joys.

He looked at the paper for wrapping the gifts,

And before she could speak- he checked this off her list.

He placed the gifts carefully beneath the green tree,

A beautiful scene that mom was relieved to see!

Then he turned to mom saying, “I didn’t forget about you!

You deserve to be pampered for all that you do!

Flying reindeer and gifts in one night to all

Are nothing compared to taking toddlers to the mall,

Or working all day, then giving baths, too,

Scrubbing little hands covered with markers and glue.

Moms create magic for their children all year;

But they drive minivans and have no flying deer.”

He gave mom some gifts in jewelry boxes- light blue-

Then he said “OK, elves! You know what to do!”

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

And away they all flew away like the down of a thistle .

But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,

“Happy Christmas to the Moms, and to the Moms, a good-night.”
