Create it Saturday: Footprint Ladybugs

My husband and I recently decided (Ok…I decided) to paint our living room. I have been taking my time putting things back on the walls because I want to love how it looks and not be hasty! I finally came up with a cute idea for the “kids corner” of my living room (i.e. where all of the toys are strewn about  stored). I wanted to incorporate my children’s artwork! I bought a couple black, inexpensive frames at Walmart. One of them I used to frame Caroline’s Very Hungry Caterpillar handprint art.

If you don’t know it by now, I kind of have this thing for kids’ hand & footprints. I love them. I think they are adorable. So I jump at the chance to create artwork using them! That being said, I  decided to use Emma and Caroline’s footprints to create ladybugs (sticking with the insect theme) for the other frame.

What you will need:

  • Paint (red, black & white)
  • Paintbrush
  • Paper
  • Black sharpie marker

All you need to do is paint the heel black (for the head) and the rest of the foot red (for the body). Have your child step down on the paper. After that dries, paint black spots on the body. Add the eyes using white and black paint. Make a little dot of red paint for a nose. Last, add the legs & antennae using the black sharpie marker.

Here’s where I hung my little cuties’ artwork:

The “kid’s corner”

The large frame has a picture of some owls with the Dr. Seuss quote “A person’s a person no matter how small .” I just think it’s adorable and totally works with the theme here! Caroline LOVES seeing her artwork framed and on the wall and I am sure that when Emma’s a bit older she will feel the same way!

We would LOVE to see your Create it Saturday creations! Please share with us by uploading a picture to our facebook page!!!
